Spam calls and messages can be really annoying. Although the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made efforts to address the problem, it hasn't fully resolved it yet. Now, Bharti Airtel is stepping in with AI-powered technology to help tackle the issue.
The company has introduced what it calls the country’s “first AI-powered spam detection solution.” They will provide this service to all users at no cost.
"Spam has become a real problem for our customers. We've dedicated the past year to finding a comprehensive solution," said Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel.
According to the company, the tool will notify customers in real time about suspected spam calls and messages. It will be automatically activated for all Airtel users, so customers won’t need to do anything, raise a service request, or download an app. Airtel has stated that its AI-powered spam detection solution, created by its in-house data scientists, accurately identifies suspected spam calls and messages.
Along with notifying users about spam calls and messages, this tool will also warn customers about harmful links in SMS. Airtel has created a centralized database of blacklisted URLs, and every SMS is scanned in real time by an AI algorithm to help prevent users from clicking on suspicious links.
"There are several signs we've identified to spot spammers. We've created an AI-enabled spam detection solution that analyzes calls in just 2 milliseconds and alerts users right on their dialer," Vittal added.
