Inspector Sanjay Shinde, who fatally shot Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case, alleged that Akshay had threatened to harm everyone after seizing a pistol inside the police van. The Mumbra police in Thane filed a First Information Report against Akshay Shinde for ‘attempted murder’ after he fired at the police officer. In his statement, Sanjay Shinde mentioned he was also investigating another case involving a complaint from Akshay Shinde's first wife, alleging sexual harassment and unnatural acts. On Monday evening, a police team took Akshay Shinde out of Taloja jail for questioning related to his wife’s allegations.

During transport, Inspector Shinde was seated next to the driver, while two constables and Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More were in the rear section with Akshay. Upon nearing the Shil-Daighar police station, API More informed Inspector Shinde that Akshay was questioning why he was being taken away and what new charges he faced. Akshay then began to verbally abuse the officers, prompting Inspector Shinde to stop the van and move to the back with the others.
