Security forces in Bangladesh have apprehended a total amount of 1,308 people nationwide as part of the ongoing "Operation Devil Hunt," which was initiated to address widespread incidents of mob violence & vandalism. The operation was launched on Saturday by the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, following the injury of student activists in Gazipur previous week during an attack on the home of a former Awami League Minister.

The joint operation, which also involves the army, police, and specialized units, resulted in the arrest of at least 274 individuals from urban areas, with another 1,034 detained from rural regions, according to Enamul Haque Sagar, assistant inspector general (media and PR) at the Police Headquarters, which was reported by The Business Standard. The majority of those arrested in the operation are members of the Awami League & its affiliated groups.

In Gazipur, 81 members of the Awami League & its associated organizations were arrested, while in Cumilla, 3 people linked to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party were taken into custody. Joint forces also detained 7 of the Awami League figures, including a union parishad chairman, during separate operations in various locations within Noakhali's Hatia upazila.

The Yunus-led interim government launched the special operation, named 'Operation Devil Hunt,' on Saturday to reduce unrest & improve public safety across the country. A government statement confirmed that the operation was started after gangs "linked to the fallen autocratic regime attacked a group of students, leaving them severely injured."

Addressing the operation, Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the drive would continue until all "devils" are brought to justice and "not a single devil should be left out."

The Home Adviser elaborated that the operation would continue targeting those who seek to destabilize the nation by defying the law & acting as anarchists. "Many of those who attacked the students and the public in Gazipur have been brought to book. The rest will soon be exposed to justice," he stated 2 days ago.
