A 24-year-old man was killed early Thursday in Mumbai's Goregaon area when a speeding SUV, driven by a 17-year-old, collided with his bike, according to police and PTI. The teenager has been arrested, and a case has been filed against him and two others, including the owner of the SUV.
Navin Vaishnaw, who was out distributing milk, was killed when a Mahindra Scorpio coming from the wrong direction crashed into his two-wheeler around 4 am. The vehicle then fled the scene, according to a police official.
After hitting the two-wheeler, the SUV crashed into an electric pole. The teen driver tried to escape but was injured and caught by the police. When officers arrived, they took Vaishnaw to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
The police filed charges against the 17-year-old driver, SUV owner Iqbal Jivani (48), and his son Mohammed Faz Iqbal Jivani (21). They seized the car and arrested the suspects, including the minor, with the help of CCTV footage. The teenager’s blood samples were sent for testing to check for alcohol use, and investigators are looking into whether he had been partying with friends before the crash.
