19-Year-Old Delivery Boy Kills Himself After Being Scolded By Customer

A 19-year-old delivery executive from Chennai died due to suicide on September 18 after he was scolded by a customer and got in an argument with the customer. The victim was identified as J Pavithran, a B. Com student, who mentioned in the suicide note, the reason for his decision being the customer’s harsh treatment.

On September 11, Pavithran got delayed while delivering food in the Korattur district as he could not the customer's home. The delay sparked a heated dispute, with the client condemning him and eventually filing an official complaint about the service.

An officer working on the case said, “The woman allegedly berated him for being late. The tension between the two escalated when, later that day, the woman lodged a formal complaint with the delivery platform, requesting that Pavithran not be assigned to her deliveries in the future. We have information that the company had taken action against him. We are yet to get a clear picture on the action he was faced with.”

Two days later, situation escalated when Pavithran allegedly thew a stone at the customer’s house, breaking a window. This incident resulted in the customer lodging a police complaint against him. The woman filed a police report with the Korattur police, who found Pavithran the following day. He was called in for questioning and was given a warning, but no official charges were made because he was a student.

On Wednesday, Pavithran was discovered hanging from his home's ceiling. Kolathur Police arrived at the spot, retrieved the body, and took it to Kilpauk Government Hospital for autopsy. A suicide note, allegedly written by Pavithran, was also discovered at the property. The suicide note read, “The reason for my death – I went into depression after being scolded by the person during the delivery. More deaths will occur as long as such women exist".
