We are in May 2024, lumping from the sweaty heatwaves, striking sun & unwanted rising temperatures year by year; are you feeling this heat yet? If not not too late but by 2050 India is going to surpass the temperature limits for sure owing to the current heatwaves statistics. India recorded highest tempareture in Phalodi, Rajasthan of around 51.0 °C.

It has been reported that India will face  heatwaves 30 times more frequently than current situation and will last 92-200 times longer by the century's end. The causes adds the rising concrete jungles retaining significant natural heat and contributing in hefty proportions to these heat waves. 

These hot conditions are affecting 49% of the Indians working outdoors. Significant percentages of workers in the informal economy experience heat stress and near-death due to spending 4-9 hours daily in direct sunlight. It casts 60% construction workers, 78% street vendors, 50% Daily wage workers & 100% Women Workers.

On the other hand India is a agricultural country and these rising temperature have already affected a lot of farmers and will continue to affect. Heat-related crop damage between 1967 to 2023 has caused ovr 59,300 farmer suicides in India.

Not just humans but heat is also affecting animals and birds in increasing number of fatalities. In 2022, over 300 birds in just Delhi-NCR were treated for heat-related illnesses. Driven by thirst, animals such as leopards, elephants, civet cats and foxes venture into human settlements in search of water. Elephants too, need copious amounts of fresh water every day, the availability or lack of which affects their daily lives, breeding and migration patterns.
