GBS is an uncommon disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nerves, leading to muscle weakness, reduced sensation in the arms and legs, and difficulties with swallowing or breathing.

As reported by PTI, civic authorities stated that the Andheri (East) resident was admitted to the hospital after experiencing fever and diarrhoea, followed by ascending paralysis. Further information about the patient is still pending. In severe instances, GBS can lead to near-complete paralysis. The condition is more frequently seen in adults, particularly males, though it can affect individuals of all ages.

In Pune district, Maharashtra, the suspected death toll from GBS has reached six, with a 63-year-old man dying on Wednesday after being diagnosed with the condition. The total number of suspected GBS cases in the district now stands at 173. The man was hospitalized with fever, diarrhea, and weakness in his lower limbs, and his condition worsened, leading to death from an acute ischemic stroke. Of the six deaths, five are suspected GBS-related, and one is confirmed. The number of suspected cases has increased with the detection of three new cases.
