"Supreme Court Orders Kolkata Doctors to Resume Work, Assures No Adverse Action Amidst Rape-Murder Case"

The Supreme Court had previously criticized the West Bengal government for its handling of the case and demanded a report on the mob that entered the hospital during a peaceful protest.

The Supreme Court is preparing to resume hearings on the pleas related to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will also present its status report on the case.

As directed by the Supreme Court on August 20, the CBI is set to deliver its investigative report in a sealed envelope to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. 

The Supreme Court, having taken suo motu notice of the Kolkata rape-murder case, instructed the CBI to provide an update on the investigation by August 22. Additionally, the CBI is expected to investigate the mob vandalism at the hospital and report all findings. 

The Supreme Court had previously criticized the West Bengal government for its handling of the case and demanded a report on the mob that entered the hospital during a peaceful protest.

Meanwhile, the CBI has interrogated former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for the sixth consecutive day. 

Amid ongoing national protests, the Supreme Court has established a national task force to address broader concerns about ensuring the safety of medical professionals, particularly women. Doctors' groups, who have been on strike, have pledged to collaborate with the national task force and are advocating for a central law on the matter. 

The task force has been instructed to submit an interim report in three weeks and a final report within two months.
