West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a stern warning to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the protests and rallies connected to the Kolkata doctor rape case. A 31-year-old intern at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was allegedly raped and murdered in the institution’s seminal hall on August 9, sparking widespread protests nationwide.
A recent demonstration, known as ‘Nabanna Abhijan,’ aimed at the State Secretariat of the West Bengal government in Kolkata, turned violent, leading to clashes between protesters and security forces. The police responded with water cannons and tear gas to control the large crowd.
The following day, Mamata Banerjee accused PM Narendra Modi of using his party, the BJP, to incite unrest in Bengal over the rape and murder case, warning him that “if Bengal is set ablaze, other states including Assam, the North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also catch fire, and your position will be in jeopardy.”
Speaking at a public event in Kolkata, she remarked, “Some believe this is Bangladesh. I hold Bangladesh in high regard; they share our language and culture. However, remember that Bangladesh and India are distinct countries. Modi Babu is exploiting his party to stir up trouble here.”
“If Bengal is engulfed in flames, other states such as Assam, the North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also be affected!
