Three individuals lost their lives on Saturday in West Bengal's Murshidabad district during violent protests that have been continuing for 2 consecutive days over amendments to the Waqf laws, which dictate the administration of Muslim charitable properties in the country.
According to police, 2 of the deceased were a father and his son; their bodies were discovered at their home in Jafrabad in the Samserganj area, afflicted with several stab wounds.
The 3rd victim was shot in Dhulian in Samserganj.
Many injuries have also been reported, including those sustained by an uncertain number of security personnel 'attacked' by demonstrators, prompting police to deploy tear gas and perform a lathi charge.
Severe violence was reported in Stuti & Samserganj in the Muslim-majority district, including incidents of police vehicles being set ablaze, railway tracks being obstructed, & property being vandalized.
