White Bird a Wonder Story, directed by Marc Forster, is a period film that intends to make you find hope and leave the cinemas with your hearts filled with the light of kindness.
The film is set in Nazi Occupied French and follows Jullian’s Grandmother, Sarah. Jullain, who struggles to settle in his new school after getting expelled from his previous one for bullying a fellow student, gets a lesson of kindness from his Grandmother, who shares her story of being a Jew in Nazi Germany and talks about the acts of kindness that saved her through the dark times of the war.

The film is a bit predictable from the start, but the cinematography and the soundtrack keep the audience hooked. Forster did a fabulous job of bringing out the beauty of a small village surrounded by war. Whether it was the streets filled with German soldiers or the wild wolves running through the mysterious woods, his direction weaved it very well with the story.
As mentioned, the story was a bit predictable, with some parts that felt a bit dragged. However, the story is still strong, combined with the epic background score and the acting of young actors Ariella Glaser and Orlando Schwerdt, which made the audience hopeful during a predictable scene.
The acting and the characters need to be talked about. The supporting cast was not so memorable, but the lead Helen Mirren and Gillian Anderson, delivered a strong performance with such elegance. The emotions of love, hope, loss and kindness were displayed very well by the young cast throughout the film.
White Bird is a film that preaches the message of humanity, which is much needed when the whole world is ablaze and lost in darkness. The film is releasing on 4 October in cinemas worldwide.
