Mumbai Indians made a losing match on victory in the final overs of the close encounter against their favourite rivals Kolkata Knight Riders, again!

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai where there is no distinct advantage for chasing, KKR skipper Morgan chose to bowl first after winning the toss. While batting first Mumbai Indians with their top batsmen, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma started well but couldn’t end it according to their reputation as they lose 7 wickets in 37 runs in slog overs.

Inform Suryakumar Yadav scored first half-century of his 2021 campaign, scored 56 runs with 7 fours and 2 sixes. While Rohit Sharma missed his half century and got bowled by Pat Cummins on 43 runs. Except these two no one could score 20 runs par runs. KKR restricted Mumbai on 152 runs with Russell taking 5 wickets in just 2 overs.

In the second inning KKR openers again started well in the second consecutive match as Rana scored second half-century of the campaign while Gill scored quick-fire 33 runs. Kolkata again went through the same crisis they gone in the last season; inability of middle order. Kolkata’s middle order today scored 5, 7, 9, 8, 9 runs which is not ideal to win matches against titanic teams like Mumbai Indians.

In the last overs Rohit Sharma’s captaincy got off the mark and the way he filtered his bowling unit KKR batsmen remained clue-less. Jasprit Bumrah showed his skillful bowling performance while Krunal Pandya gave just 13 runs off 4 overs with 1 wicket. Trent Boult in the last over amazed with his experience in the death overs and critical situations as he not only defended 14 runs in 6 balls but also took 2 wickets and gave only 4 runs.

Brief Score:

Mumbai Indians: 152/10 (S Yadav 56, R Sharma 43, Russell 5-15)

Kolkata Knight Riders: 142/7 (N Rana 53, Gill 33, Chahar 4-27)

Mumbai Indians won the match.
