Kolkata Knight Riders had a relief victory today against Punjab Kings after suffering from four consecutive defeats in their last matches while Punjab Kings failed as a team in the first match at Narendra Modi Stadium of IPL 2021.

Earlier while batting first, Punjab Kings scored 123 runs with highest runs from Mayank Agarwal (31) and Jordan (30). On the other hand middle order got collapsed against planned bowling attack by Morgan and co. as Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets while Narayan and Cummins took 2 wickets each.

It looked like a bowling pitch but Punjab Kings doesn’t seem to assess the pitch well as after taking early wickets, bowling unit couldn’t stop middle order batsmen Tripathi and Morgan. Tripathi scored 41 runs in 32 balls while Morgan scored 47 runs in 40 balls. The partnership made it easy for Kolkata to register the 5 wickets victory.

With the two crucial points Kolkata Knight Riders displaced Punjab Kings from 5th position. Today’s match was very important for KKR to be in the mid phase in the tournament as the league proceeds it will get more difficult to earn victories with new ground coming.
