Female foeticide is a plague to Indian society and this practice has been followed for quite sometime. Kaali Khuhi focuses on the scum and brings out a very relevant subject.

Kaali Khuhi tells the story of Darshan and his family who goes back to his village to take care of his mother who had suffered from a suspicious attack. During the visit, his daughter discovers a fatal secret of the village which is going to change the future.
Directed by Terrie Samundra, Kaali Khuhi is based on the harsh reality prevalent in North India where female child is still considered as liability to her family. Hats off to Terrie for bringing out the bold subject but the right intention does not transform into a good message as Kaali Khuhi suffers heavily from a poor writing and disappointing screenplay which acts as a bottleneck in the movement of the film. The pace becomes slow and loose editing makes it worse.
Kaali Khuhi was the opportunity for the director to make it a good watch if she would have focused on the screenplay in the first half where the story hardly moves and you would wonder if film looks completely stretch. Technically, cinematography is good. Art direction is good while background score is nice.

Shabana Azmi steals the show with her solid performance. She gets into the character with ease. Performances by other star cast is just about OK.
Overall, Kaali Khuhi is a golden opportunity which got wasted. I wish the makers could have worked on the script to make it more interesting. Decent 2.75/5
