With tvN’s latest drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born creating a buzz, many viewers are wondering if the actors are singing their own parts. Questions like “Jeongnyeon singing replacement” and “Jeongnyeon lipsync” have been trending on Korean web portals. Fans finally got some clarity during the show’s recent press conference.
At the event held on October 10, lead actress Kim Tae Ri addressed the rumors. She revealed that she began studying pansori, a traditional Korean form of singing, as soon as she was cast for the role. “I started singing lessons the moment I decided to take on the role,” Kim shared. She also practiced dancing, mastering the Jeolla dialect, and stage acting after finishing her previous project.
Industry insiders added that Kim Tae Ri performed about 98% of the singing herself, with minimal sound correction for the remaining 2%. Her dedication to the role, without relying on a singing replacement, has added to the drama’s popularity.

Please watch Kim Tae Ri’s version of Bangja…it’s crazy. She breaks the worries that Jeongnyeon will ruin the stage.
Shin Ye Eun, another key actress in the drama, also confirmed that she sang her own part for the iconic Bangjajeon scene.

Shin Ye Eun’s acting as Bangja is so good I have goosebumps. When she starts with her eyes closed, it feels like Bangja’s spirit has entered Yeongseo’s body. Jeongnyeon is overwhelmed by Yeongseo’s acting.
While post-production enhancements were available for live performances, the fact that the actors' real voices were used has become a key talking point for fans.
As Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born continues to air every weekend on tvN, its blend of authentic performances and compelling storytelling is winning over audiences. The actors’ commitment to their roles, particularly by performing their own songs, adds a unique element to the show’s appeal.
