England skipper Joe Root scored 20th Century on 100th Test Match of his test career, 5th against India. England began their India tour today with the 1st Test among 4 match Test series at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Earlier on day 1 England won the toss and opted bat first and celebrated the decision by the end of the day while Joe Root grinded his cricket skills once again continuing the form he got in the Shrilanka series and Sibley who misses out his first Test hundred scored 87 runs off 286 deliveries.
Root and Sibley shared 200 runs partnership in which Sibley turned out as a dominant partner while Root played attacker’s role. Both gave a tiring day for Indian bowling unit in which 3 of the 5 bowlers couldn’t open the wicket column.
In the first session Rory Burns and Sibley started steadily and played out around 20 overs but lose the string in the 24th over of Ashwin where Burns got caught out by Wicketkeeper Pant. He scored 33 runs, in just pair of overs Jasprit Bumrah succeed in choking new batsmen Daniel Lawrence, Lawrence got LBW on duck.
After a lucky first session England protectively played middle session and didn’t lose any wickets, Sibley and Root started building a heavy partnership but with slow run rate in the middle overs. In the third session both started covering up the runs part and scored 123 runs throughout the session, Bumrah ended the innings for Sibley in the last over of the day with a LBW.
