In the second match of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings took on Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. A splendid partnership from the openers helped DC to go over the finishing line comprehensively. DC 190/3, Shikhar Dhawan 85, Shardul Thakur 2/53.
Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw commenced the proceedings with the bat for Delhi Capitals. The two openers took apart the DC bowling line up and smashed 65 runs in the powerplay. They continued their counter-attacking approach and the likes of Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar and Moeen Ali were taking the beatings from DC’s opening pair. Shaw completed his half-century in the 10th over while Dhawan got to his 50 in the following over. After a couple of missed opportunities, CSK finally managed to get rid of this threatening partnership when Shaw went for the maximum but ended up finding the fielder at the deep mid-wicket. The opening partnership gathered 138 runs which put DC in the commanding position. After Shaw’s wicket, Dhawan continued the attack and scored in the mid-wicket region with his paddle sweeps. Rishabh Pant was the new batsman at the crease and took his time to settle in the middle. Dhawan continued with the attack and hit two consecutive boundaries to Shardul Thakur before he was struck on his pads right in front of the stumps. Marcus Stoinis was the new batsman in the middle and by the time he came out to bat DC was on the verge of winning the match comfortably and the all-rounder departed when his team needed three off the nine deliveries. Pant gave the finishing touch with a boundary at long-on and sealed the game.
DC clinches their first game of the season on a higher note by seven wickets. Thakur pocketed two wickets while Dj Bravo grabbed one and conceded 28 runs.
