In the 21st match of the Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders faced Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. KKR won the toss and chose to bowl. PBKS 123/9 Chris Jordan (31), Sunil Narine (2/22).
Punjab Kings had a decent start to their innings with the opening pair gathering 36 runs for the first wicket before KL Rahul (19) was caught by Sunil Narine on Pat Cummins’ bowling in the sixth over. PBKS managed to score 37 runs in the powerplay. Chris Gayle also departed in the following over after being caught behind the stumps on Shivam Mavi’s bowling on a golden duck. Deepak Hooda was also dismissed in the next over when he was caught by Eoin Morgan in the point region on Prasidh Krishna’s bowling. Amidst the fall of wickets, Mayank Agarwal (31) kept the scoreboard ticking before hitting the ball straight in Rahul Tripathi’s hand on Sunil Narine’s bowling. Moises Henriques was sent back to the pavilion by Narine, a couple of overs later. Shahrukh Khan was the new batsman at number seven, after adding less than a run-a-ball 13 he was caught by Morgan on Prasidh’s bowling. Chris Jordan was the batsman at number eight, he kept pushing for those singles and doubles, and even occasional boundaries. In the final over, Jordan smashed two sixes before he departed which added a respectable total for Punjab on the board.
For KKR, Narine, Prasidh and Cummins pocketed two wickets each while Varun Chakravarthy and Mavi grabbed one wicket each. The Knight Riders need 124 runs in the second innings.
