In the 19th match of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings faced Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance with the bat and ball proved clinical in CSK’s 69-run victory.
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat, they set up a competitive target of 192. CSK’s opening pair had a fiery start as Faf du Plessis (50) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (33) gathered 74 runs for the first wicket. The attacking partnership was broken by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 10th over. Suresh Raina was the number three batsman, he played a small cameo of 24 off 18 before he departed which maintained the run rate in the middle overs. Amidst the fall of wickets, Plessis kept scoring runs from one end and completed his half-century in the 14th over. Harshal Patel struck twice in the same over when he got rid of Raina and Plessis in consecutive deliveries. Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja (62) were the two new batsmen at the crease, the two batsmen had a quick partnership of 31 before the former fell prey to Patel. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the new batsman at six. Jadeja was the set batsman at the crease, the Chennai camp expected a big finish and the all-rounder didn’t disappoint. The 32-year-old all-rounder smashed 37 runs off the last over which was bowled by Patel, he hammered five sixes and one four. The southpaw levelled the record of the highest number of runs in a single over.
The three-time IPL winners restricted Bangalore to 122 at the loss of nine wickets and claimed two points in a 69-run victory. Jadeja pocketed three wickets, Imran Tahir got two to his name while Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran got one wicket each.
For RCB, Patel got three scalps while Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed one wicket. With this victory, the MSD led-CSK attained the number one spot on the points table. Jadeja was the man of the match for his 62 with the bat, his innings decorated with five sixes and four boundaries, and 3/13 with the ball.
