In the 26th match of the Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore faced Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The PBKS spinners restricted RCB in the run chase and claimed the fixture by 34 runs. RCB 145/8, Virat Kohli 35, Harpreet Brar (3/19).
Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their in-form opener Devdutt Padikkal in the third over itself. Rajat Patidar was the number three batsman. Patidar (31) and Virat Kohli built a 43-run partnership after the early wicket which kept the scoreboard moving in the middle overs. Harpreet Brar struck twice in the same over when he got rid of Kohli and Glenn Maxwell in two consecutive deliveries. AB De Villiers was the new batsman at number five, Bangalore needed one more match-saving innings from their most dependable batsman. ABD fell prey to Brar in the 13th over after just scoring three runs. RCB couldn’t sustain the flow of wickets as they lost two more wickets on two consecutive deliveries in Ravi Bishnoi’s over. The Kohli led Bangalore lost seven wickets even before they could put up 100-runs on the board. Kyle Jamieson and Harshal Patel were the two new batsmen at the crease and the latter counter-attacked the PBKS bowlers. He smashed 31 off 13 with three fours and two sixes. Patel and Jamieson built a 48-run partnership for the eighth wicket before the former’s fighting cameo was ended by Bishnoi’s terrific dive at long-off in the final over. At the end of the 20th over Bangalore fell short of 34 runs.
PBKS won the game, claimed those two crucial points and acquired the sixth spot with six points. Brar pocketed three wickets while Bishnoi got two to his name with Jordan, Shami and Meredith got one scalp each to their name.
