In the 14th match of the Indian Premier League, Sunrisers Hyderabad played Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai at 3:30 PM IST. The opening pair’s partnership of 73 runs proved instrumental for SRH in a below-par run chase against PBKS which helped them to seal the game by nine wickets.

After winning the toss, Punjab Kings opted to bat, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to bowl out their opponents for 120. In the second innings, SRH needed a mere target of 121, David Warner (37) and Jonny Bairstow (63) had a steady start to their innings. The two batsmen showed respect for the good deliveries and started putting the bad ones away to the boundaries. The opening pair of Bairstow and Warner scored 50 runs in the powerplay and laid the foundation for the chase. Punjab got the first breakthrough in the 11th over when Warner hit the ball straight to the fielder in the mid-wicket region. Kane Williamson was the new batsman at the crease who was playing his first match of the IPL 2021, the experienced batsman took his team home by staying unbeaten along with Bairstow. Hyderabad won their first game of the ongoing edition by nine wickets with seven balls to spare.

Khaleed Ahmed and Abhishek Verma pocketed three and two wickets respectively for SRH while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddharth Kaul and Rashid Khan had one wicket each to their name.

For PBKS, Fabian Allen was the only bowler who managed to get a wicket to his name.
