The 20-year-old man who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump first caught law enforcement's attention during Saturday's rally when onlookers observed him behaving strangely outside the campaign event. This report triggered an urgent search, but authorities were unable to locate him before he gained access to a rooftop and opened fire.

In the aftermath of the shooting, which resulted in the death of one spectator, investigators were searching for any clues as to what might have motivated Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, to carry out the shocking attack. The FBI stated they were investigating it as a potential act of domestic terrorism, yet the lack of a clear ideological motive from the deceased individual shot by Secret Service has fueled conspiracy theories.

"I urge everyone — everyone, please, refrain from making assumptions about his motives or affiliations," President Joe Biden emphasized in remarks from the White House on Sunday. "Allow the FBI and their partner agencies to conduct their investigations. I've directed that this investigation be thorough and expedient."

The FBI believes Crooks acted alone and had bomb-making materials in the car he drove to the rally. Investigators have not discovered any threatening remarks on social media accounts or ideological stances that could explain his decision to target Trump before Secret Service agents swiftly escorted the then-presumptive Republican presidential nominee offstage with blood on his face.
