The two leaders addressed supporters Monday evening at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 5, located on Pittsburgh's South Side.

"I love celebrating Labor Day," Harris stated. "And Pittsburgh, naturally, is the heart of the American labor movement. It's the birthplace of the AFL, the headquarters for Steelworkers, home to Firefighters Local 1, and the historic IBEW Local Union 5."

During her speech, Harris emphasized that U.S. Steel should remain an American-owned company, aligning with Biden’s stance against the company's proposed sale to Japan’s Nippon Steel. Earlier this year, Biden had assured U.S. Steel would stay under American ownership during his visit to the United Steelworkers headquarters in Pittsburgh.

Joseph Glassbrenner, a supporter of Harris, remarked, "I've always backed my union, and we know which candidates stand with us. That’s why we’re hosting Kamala Harris. They recognize our work and the investments needed to keep us employed."

IBEW member Casey Sciore told KDKA-TV's Mamie Bah that he believes Harris will be more beneficial to union workers compared to former President Donald Trump.

"I don’t see Trump as very supportive of unions, so it’s reassuring to have someone who will stand up for us," Sciore said.
