Jennie has been charged for stealing the Rocky Aur Rani theme from Alia Bhatt for her latest single.

Known for her affiliation with the group BLACKPINK, K-pop sensation Jennie just revealed her new single. A nine-second teaser for the song, "Like Jennie," was posted on social media on Tuesday. The music will be released on Friday. While the teaser was well received by the singer's fans, listeners who are Desi were intrigued because it sounded a lot like the theme from Karan Johar's 2023 smash Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which featured Alia Bhatt's character Rani.

Did Jennie use the same theme as Alia Bhatt?

The song's preview shows vocalists yelling "Jennie" over thundering sounds. Some fans were aware that the beat and flow greatly resembled Rani's theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. After seeing the preview for Like Jennie, one person tweeted Rani's theme, writing, "The copy paste (crying emoji) she’s shameless." “This is the same song, even the vocals are similar,” another person said.

Pritam, who has also been the target of similar accusations, wrote a song that Jennie was accused of plagiarizing, which disappointed many fans. "Jennie's plagiarism of Pritam, of all people, is unbelievable. One tweet said, "Bollywood above all else." A separate K-pop fan posted on Twitter, saying, "#BLACKPINK's Jennie copied the song Rani Anthem from the movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which has Indian artist Pritam's credits, in a way that sounds no different."

Fans say it's not necessarily a copy. However, some users of X (previously Twitter) were wary. According to one, just because the music sounds similar doesn't mean Jennie copied Pritam. He may have used an old Korean song as a sample for Rani's theme, something he has done before.

A fan claimed, "Pritam literally copied Pehli Nazar me note for note without any credits from a Korean song, probably did the same for this intro, sampled it, from another international song but didn't legally give credits whereas Jennie will give sampling credits."

While inspiration and resemblances are unavoidable in the world of music, the difference between plagiarism and homage is still blurred. The similarity is too great to overlook, according to some fans, while others are apprehensive that Jennie's song is only influenced by Pritam's *Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani* theme. Neither Jennie nor her team have responded to the claims.
