On Wednesday evening, the security branch of the Home Ministry announced that all diplomatic passports issued to members of the previous administration would be revoked.

This decision impacts the diplomatic passport that Sheikh Hasina used when she fled to India earlier this month.

The Home Ministry noted that the decision followed consultations with all relevant parties, and all immigration checkpoints across the country have been notified.

Having won the Gopalganj-3 constituency in January's election and returned to the Jatiyo Sansad as a member of Parliament, Sheikh Hasina now no longer enjoys the diplomatic privileges she once had.

This action, occurring just two weeks after the interim government took office, highlights the ongoing friction between the interim administration and student leaders who have vocally opposed Sheikh Hasina's presence in India.

She and her sister Sheikh Rehana departed Bangladesh on August 5 amid widespread protests in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi has not provided any comments regarding the diplomatic status Sheikh Hasina utilized to seek refuge in India. It is understood that she used her diplomatic passport as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister to exit the country.
