The unsettling turn of events began with an argument heard between Ling, 52, and her boyfriend, Hong Yew Peng, 54, just days before her tragic death on February 21. Initially, the housemate didn't suspect anything amiss but grew concerned after not seeing Ling for two days. Upon entering her room, the grisly scene unfolded before her eyes.

Police swiftly arrested Hong on suspicion of murder, and subsequent investigations revealed the extent of the horrific crime. Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, disclosed that Ling had suffered a total of 14 stab wounds, along with slash wounds and bruises.

"The post-mortem examination confirmed 14 stab wounds, including three on the face, five on the chest, five on the left forearm and left hand, and one on the right calf. Additionally, there were slash wounds on her chest and left hand, as well as bruises on her forehead," explained Assistant Commissioner Patit.

Hong appeared in court where he acknowledged the charge against him. If convicted, he faces a mandatory death penalty under Malaysian law. Alternatively, he could face imprisonment ranging from 30 to 40 years, coupled with at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Authorities have begun to unravel a possible motive behind the heinous act, but details on what might have triggered Hong to commit such a brutal crime are still under investigation.
