Continuing his fighting spirit and form from Australia Tour Rishabh Pant again saved India by collapsing against England bowling unit in the final test between India and England at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmadabad.
Pant with a sweeping shot scored quickfire 101 runs; the knock involves 13 fours and 2 sixes and a strike rate of 85.5 highest by any batsmen in the Indian inning. While India’s batting lineup collapsed against England bowlers Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant started building a partnership.
Rishabh Pant started gearing up for a big knock when Rohit Sharma was playing hand in hand. But as soon Rohit Sharma got LBW out by Ben Stokes Pant hold the strings with Ashwin and Washington Sundar.
Pant and Sundar scored 103 runs partnership together; while both the batsmen started attacking England bowling unit with hard and fast shots with a new ball coming up in last 10-15 overs. After a deep collapse of India in the first two sessions India lost 6 wickets on 146 runs but India covered up the score by putting some extra runs; India scored 146 runs in the final session.
Rishabh Pant said in a post-match presentation, “The plan was just to build a partnership when I joined Rohit, that was the only thing on my mind. I was thinking I would assess the pitch and then play my shots. If the bowlers are bowling well respect it and take the singles, and that was on my mind.”
He adds, “The team plan was to get to 206, past the England total, and then get as many runs as possible after that. I get the license most of the time, but I have to assess the situation and take the game head on. I like to make the team win and if the crowd is entertained by that, I’m happy.”
