The MA Chidambaram stadium will be the venue for the first match of the Test series between India and England which will commence from February 5. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first two games of the bilateral series will be played at Chepauk.

The last time India was defeated at the venue was in the year 1999 against Pakistan. The hosts lost the close encounter by a margin of 12 runs and Pakistan registered its one of the iconic victory in the longest format.
The last encounter at the MA Chidambaram stadium between India and England took place in 2016, the latter lost the Test match by an innings. The visiting England team completed a hat-trick of losses at the venue after that defeat. The English haven’t been able to win a match at the venue since 1985. With the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, England is bound to have a tough time facing the Indian spinners.
At the MA Chidambaram stadium, 32 Test matches have been played, out of which India won 14 games. In the head-to-head competition between the two teams at the venue, India has the upper hand as they beat England five-time and lost to them thrice, while one game ended in a draw.
