In the fourth Test of the England tour of India, Joe Root won the toss at the Narendra Modi Stadium and chose to bat. First Innings, Overs 56, England 144/5, Ben Stokes (55), Jonny Bairstow (28), Axar Patel (2/48). The second session of the fourth Test belonged to the Indian team as they picked two wickets and conceded 70 runs in 31 overs.

Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes started the proceedings with the bat for the visitors. The home team struck early in the second session when Mohammed Siraj got the well-settled Bairstow for lbw in the 29th over. Ollie Pope (21) came out to bat after Bairstow’s dismissal, the fall of the wicket didn’t matter Stokes as he kept on playing his game and kept the scoreboard ticking. While gathering 48 runs for the fifth wicket, the southpaw completed his second half-century of the on-going series. The lefty all-rounder fell prey to Washington Sundar when the batsman was struck on his pads right in front of the stumps in the 47th over. Daniel Lawrence (15) came out to bat at number seven. Lawrence and Pope churned out 23 runs before the second session concluded.

The England team will be counting on these two batsmen to gather some crucial runs for the team. Axar Patel and Siraj took two wickets each while Washington Sundar got one to his name. In the second session, 70 runs were scored in 31 overs at the run rate of 2.26 runs per over.
