When the two competing teams have faced each other in the shortest format, it has turned out to be a high scoring game which has provided the cricket fans with enormous entertainment. Let’s have a look at the top 3 high octane T20I fixtures between India and England:
- 2007 World Cup
It was Andre Flintoff again who tried to mess with an Indian player and because of that, the England team had to pay the price. India was batting first in a group match of the inaugural T20I World Cup. Virender Sehwag’s destructive knock along with Gautam Gambhir’s steady innings put India in a good position. India lost three wickets in the span of 20 runs and Yuvraj Singh came to the crease. Flintoff and the southpaw exchanged some words which led Yuvraj to smash sixes to the young Stuart Broad. The left-hander’s fastest fifty from just 12 balls helped India to go past 200 and set up a huge target of 219. In reply, the English team scored 200 and fell short by 18 runs.
- England Tour Of India 2012, 2nd T20I
England had to chase 178 in 20 overs to clinch the second T20I of the bilateral series. The opening pair put up a partnership of 80 runs which laid the foundation for the chase. Wickets kept falling around but the skipper Eoin Morgan was clinical with his approach. A short cameo from Jos Butler took the game in the last over. Three runs were needed off the last ball, Ashok Dinda bowls a length ball in the search of a yorker and Morgan hits right back over the bowler’s head for a mammoth six and seals the thriller by six wickets.
- England Tour Of India 2017
India set up a below-par target of 145 for the visiting England team in the second match of the T20I bilateral series. England couldn’t get a steady start from the openers while Joe Root kept the scoreboard ticking with his run-a-ball 38. A quick-fire of 38 from Ben Stokes took the game in the last over. Only eight runs were needed of the last over. Jasprit Bumrah got the well-set Root on the first ball of the over, the yorker specialist also got the dangerous Jos Butler due to which the visitors required seven from the last two balls of the game. The English team needed a maximum off the last ball with Moeen Ali on strike, the Nagpur crowd exploded as Bumrah managed to get a dot ball and helped India to seal the close encounter by five runs.
