Axar Patel has been sidelined from the first Test match against England at Chepauk due to knee pain. Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Chahar have been added to what is now a 19-man squad for the home series.
Axar complained about the pain in the knee during the optional training session on Thursday. The all-rounder has been monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and while the detailed reports are awaited, the player won’t be available for the first Test.
Axar becomes the first casualty of the home series. Patel was included in the squad as Ravindra Jadeja’s replacement who picked up a wrist injury in the Sydney Test. The decision of adding Nadeem and Chahar in the squad was made by the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The two players were part of the standby group of players and were training with the team in Chennai.
The Indian skipper on Thursday revealed that Axar Patel has been added ahead of Shahbaz Nadeem who played in the previous home series as he was also considered as the suitable replacement for Ravindra Jadeja.
