India Vs Australia: Highest Number Of Five Wicket Hauls In Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Border-Gavaskar Trophy commences from December 17 with a Day-Night Test match which will be hosted by Adelaide Oval. Australia beat India 2-1 in the ODI bilateral series while the two teams are yet to play the three T20Is before they begin with the Test matches.


Just like the batting unit, the bowlers have shown great composure in this competitive Border-Gavaskar Trophy and have won several matches for their respective teams. In the modern-day cricket where the pitches are batting friendly, creates difficulties for the bowlers but the bowlers’ accuracy, sincerity and capability on the pitch have created impeccable records.   1. Anil Kumble
    The former captain and coach of the Indian cricket team tops the list. Anil Kumble played 20 Test matches against the Aussies and he managed to pick 111 wickets at an average of 30.32 which also makes him the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kumble has 10 five-wicket hauls to his name and also two 10 wicket hauls. Jumbo registered his best figure against Australia in the 4th Test of the 2003-04 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

  1. Harbhajan Singh
    The spin duo of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh was highly successful for India against Australia. Harbhajan Singh made a name for himself in the home series of 2001 against Australia when the off-spinner grabbed 32 wickets in three Test matches which were clinical in India’s series victory. Singh has 95 wickets to his name in 18 matches against the Aussies with an average of 29.95. His average is even better than Anil Kumble. The off-spinner has seven five-wicket hauls along with three ten-wicket hauls which are highest in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

  1. Nathan Lyon
    Tim Paine’s go-to bowler Nathan Lyon also makes the list. Lyon has been Australia’s most consistent performer with the ball for a very long time. The off-spinner has played 18 matches against India and he has managed to take 85 wickets at an average of 32.60. Lyon is the joint second highest when it comes to five-wicket hauls in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
