Indian star batsman Rohit Sharma has been declared fit after his assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is expected to fly out to Australia on December 14. The opener will be available for India’s third and fourth Test match in Australia after completing his mandatory 14-day quarantine period.
There has been a lot of rumours and confusion over the past few weeks regarding Sharma’s fitness status and availability for the Australia Tests. The skipper Virat Kohli wasn’t completely aware of the opener’s injury update. Sharma was left out initially from the India tour of Australia after he picked up the hamstring injury during the IPL. The batsman even stayed out for four matches for the Mumbai Indians after getting injured. The Indian vice-captain returned after being left out of the squads for the bilateral series against Australia and lead his team to the fifth IPL title. The MI captain was named in the squad for the last two Tests, considering the quarantine rules and his fitness results at NCA.
Captain Kohli will be heading for India after the first Test match for his paternity leave. Rohit’s inclusion in the third and fourth Test match will be a huge relief for the Men in Blue in Kohli’s absence.
