Australian opener Will Pucovski was ruled out on Thursday from the fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba. He was left out from the last Test match after failing to recover from the shoulder injury which he picked up in the third Test. Pucovski will be replaced by Marcus Harris. The Aussie skipper Tim Paine said that debutant Pucovski, who made a half-century in Sydney could not clear the fitness test ahead of the Brisbane Test. The opener injured his shoulder while fielding on the last day of the Sydney Test.
“I think there’ll be some discussions around Will’s recovery,” Tim Paine said. “What that looks like I’m not sure at the moment.” Pucovski travelled with the team to Brisbane but couldn’t train in the two days before the match.
This will be Harris’ first Test since the 2019 Ashes when he came as a replacement for Cameron Bancroft in midway through the series. Harris only scored 58 runs in six innings. Harris wasn’t a part of the original Test squad but was added later following the injuries to Pucovski and David Warner.
Harris and Pucovski were the opening pair for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield in 2020 and the pair registered a record breaking partnership of 486 against South Australia with Harris scoring 239.
