In the 3rd Test match of India tour of Australia, the hosts won the toss and chose to bat against the Indian team at the Sydney Cricket Ground. At stumps day 2, first innings, Australia 338/10, Steve Smith (131), Ravindra Jadeja (4/62). Second innings, India 96/2, Shubman Gill (50), Rohit Sharma (26), Cheteshwar Pujara (9*), Pat Cummins (1/19). The third session of the day was shared between the two teams as 70 runs were scored at the fall of two wickets.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill commenced the proceedings with the bat in the last session of the second day. The opening pair gave a good start to the visitors and stitched a partnership of 70 runs for the first wicket. The Indian vice-captain fell prey to Josh Hazlewood in the 27th over. The 33-year-old opener’s wicket didn’t affect Gill, as the youngster continued playing his shots and kept the scoreboard ticking. Gill scored his maiden Test half-century before he was caught by Cameron Green at the gully region on Pat Cummins’ bowling in the 32nd over.

Sharma and Gill’s departure brought Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane respectively to the crease. The two experienced batsmen took their time and slowed down the game. The run rate dipped after the openers departure but skipper Rahane and Pujara looked in complete control.

The visitors expect these two batsmen to stick together and conjure a big partnership. For Australia, Cummins and Hazlewood grabbed one wicket each. In the third session, 36 overs were bowled, 70 runs were scored at the fall of two wickets.
