In the first T20I of India tour of Australia, Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat against the Men in Blue. KL Rahul’s 51 along with Ravindra Jadeja’s 44 helped the visitors to set up a target of 162 for the Aussies.
Australia struck early in the innings when Mitchell Starc bowled Shikhar Dhawan in a full-length delivery in the third over. After the first six overs, India scored 42 at the loss of one wicket. Three balls after the powerplay was ended Virat Kohli was caught and bowled by Mitchell Swepson on a back of the length delivery. Sanju Samson accelerated the innings in the middle overs with KL Rahul, after a cameo of 23, Samson smashed the ball straight to the fielder at the extra cover in the 12th over on Moises Henriques bowling.
Manish Pandey who was playing his first match on the tour couldn’t contribute much with the bat as he departed after scoring just two runs in Adam Zampa’s over. The well-set Rahul fell prey to Henriques when he was caught at long-on by Sean Abbott on Henriques’ bowling. Wickets fell in quick succession without adding much on the scoreboard which made Rahul go for the slog and was caught a few feet inside the boundary rope.
Hardik Pandya departed in the 17th over by just scoring above a run a ball. Ravindra Jadeja started attacking the Aussie bowlers in the latter part of the innings. With three four and one six, the southpaw scored 23 off Hazlewood’s over which added crucial runs on the board. Jadeja managed to score 11 runs off the last over and finished the innings for India on a higher note.
For Australia, the all-rounder Henriques pocketed three wickets and conceded 22 runs while Starc picked two. Swepson and Zampa grabbed one wicket each.
