A few days back the Bharatiya Janata Party have announced in its manifesto for the Bihar State Assembly elections that they will provide free vaccine doses to all the citizens of Bihar if they are elected to power in the state. This had created a nationwide fury among the opposition parties and the common people that the party is ‘politicizing’ COVID vaccine for personal gains.
Well, we are aware that the US presidential election is around the corner just 11 days away. Both the parties—democrats and republicans are making promises to the Americans about their future strategies and plan of action if they are given the mandate. And we witnessed a similar thing happening in the US as well.
It was astonishing when Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden In his speech said, “Once we have a safe and effective vaccine, it has to be free to everyone — whether or not you’re insured.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has made a point that Covid-19 vaccine doses purchased with taxpayer dollars — through billions of dollars in funding approved by Congress — would be dispensed to the American citizens free of cost.
However, both the countries are grossly affected by the Covid pandemic. Everyone is waiting for the vaccine to arrive in the market. But politicizing it for coming to power makes it altogether a different topic.
But the difference between these two announcements is that in India BJP has announced it only for one particular state where elections are happening while Democrats have promised for citizens across the United States and not for anyone particular region.
Well to a certain extent President Trump has failed to carry out and implement an effective nationwide response to the Covid crisis which has so far taken the lives of more than 223,000 Americans. Thus time will tell this politicization works best in favor of whom on the result day of the election be it Bihar Assembly Polls or the US elections.
