India will be touring Sri Lanka in July for the limited-overs bilateral series. Three ODIs and five T20Is will take place between the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June and the 5-match Test series against England in August-September.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly announced the news officially on Sunday.
“No. India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine…This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL,” Ganguly told Sportstar when he was asked about IPL.
The news was officially revealed after IPL 2021 was postponed due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the bio-secure bubbles of the tournament. The Indian team was scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in June 2020 for 3 ODIs and T20Is each. The tour was postponed for the time being due to the pandemic. Both teams are yet to announce their final squad for the bilateral series.
In the last bilateral series between the two teams, Sri Lanka toured India for three T20Is in January 2020. India won the series 2-0 after the first game was cancelled due to rain. The last ODI game between the two teams, took place in the World Cup 2019, centuries from Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul helped India to win the game by seven wickets.
