In the day 3 of the first test match between India and England at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai India survives in their first innings. After a clean top order collapse in the first and second session, Rishabh Pant and Pujara hold the strings for India in the middle.
Pant scored 3rd half-century straight in the last 3 innings while Pujara too completed his another dominated half-century against England. Pant and Pujara are India’s savior from last few innings of India in Test cricket format be it today’s innings or in Brisbane and Sydney against Australia, last month.
In the first half, England got all-out on 578 runs with highest score being Skipper Joe Root of his 2nd double century in last 3 innings of his test career. India started chasing the huge total But Rohit Sharma got trapped by Archer in the early overs. Rohit got catch out by Wicket-keeper while Shubhman Gill who hit 5 boundaries in different regions of the ground got out by soft dismissal.
In the second session India’s Captain and vice-captain got out in quick overs; Kohli scored just 11 runs while Rahane scored just 1 run. Pujara on the other hand showed hopes for India and Rishabh Pant proves himself again why he is different from any other to be in this squad, though India was playing on the losing side everyone was praising Pant’s knock throughout the day.
Pant gave 20-20 touch in the red ball cricket with 9 fours and 5 sixes he scored 91 runs by 88 balls. While Pujara playing his natural game scored 73 runs by 143 balls and 11 fours. Later on England’s fresh spinner Dom Bess eat out the Indian middle-order; he took all the 4 wickets in the middle order from Kohli, Rahane, Pujara and Pant. Ravi Ashwin and Washington Sundar played a safe game in the last few overs and survived the day for India.
