After the rainy Day 1 of the third Test match between India and Australia Day 2 spent more on ground than pavilion. Australian star pair Labuschagne and Steven Smith made 100 runs partnership at the start of the day but it got broken by leggy quick spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the 71st over.
Labuschagne scored 91 runs in 196 balls and got catch out by Rahane in the slips and couldn’t pass the 100 run-mark for the first time in this series. Soon in few overs Matthew Wade gave easy catch to Bumrah in the over of Jadeja.
After Jadeja’s striking Bumrah choked the new comers; Green played 21 balls and scored zero runs he got LBW out on duck while Australian skipper Tim Paine scored single run and got bowled by Bumrah. Soon Cummins too got bowled by Jadeja.
Starc and Smith then tried to make a partnership but Indian debutant fast bowler got Starc catch out by Gill. Soon Lyon lost his wicket and then Smith got run out by Jadeja. Smith scored 131 runs in 226 balls with 16 fours. He has been suffering from pour form in this Test series but showed his master class today. Australia scored 338 runs in their first innings.
Indian new opening pair was set to deliver the runs; series debutant Rohit Sharma opened with new Indian batsman Shubhman Gill. Both scored 70 runs together. It becomes India’s highest opening total in last few matches and it’s a good sign for India. Suddenly in the 27th over Rohit Sharma got caught and bowled by Hazlewood.
Gill and Pujara then hold the string with slower run rate and defensive method. Gill put his first Intonation Test half-century on board. He got catch out in Cummins’ over soon on the next ball. He scored 50 runs in 101 balls and 8 fours. Rahane and Pujara then ended the innings without losing patients.
