2018 saw the biggest clash of the year between Akshay Kumar and John Abraham when both actors fought over the Independence Day for box office. History repeated again when Akshay Kumar challenged John Abraham once again for Independence Day 2019 when Mission Mangal faced Batla House.
It was probably the biggest clash this year when Akshay Kumar starrer Gold took over the John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate during the Independence Day week. Both films went on to the record breaking opening and also became the highest grossing films of 2018. While Gold went to earn Rs 107.35 crores, Satyameva Jayate became the highest grossing film of John Abraham as a solo hero with Rs 90.39 crore.
Last year, the producers and makers of Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal locked the date for 15th August, 2019 which also saw the release of John Abraham’s Batla House. Mission Mangal was simply unstoppable as it showed a good hold in its fourth weekend inspite of Saaho and Chhichhore. Mission Mangal became the first film of Akshay Kumar to cross 200 crore and sixth film of 2019 after WAR, Good Newwz, Kabir Singh, URI-The Surgical Strike and Bharat. Mission Mangal ended its domestic run with Rs 203.08 crore
Batla House has opened to a good response inspite of clashing with Mission Mangal and registered a good collection. Due to the strong word of mouth, Batla House performed well in the subsequent week, ultimately becoming the highest grossing film of John Abraham with Rs 99.24 crore, beating Satyameva Jayate. Batla House stars John Abraham, Ravi Kishan, Mrunal Thakur and Nora Fatehi and is being directed by Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho and D-Day).
