After getting hard and huge totals from Australian side in the first two ODIs of the 3 match ODI series, Indian team is slightly disrupted due to the imbalance in the playing XI. As there are only two all-rounders in the squad selectors have picked in which Hardik Pandya is not fit to bowl all the ten overs in ODIs.
Cricket circles and former players are criticizing selection committee and so that captain Virat Kohli for picking incomplete team for the series. Indian bowling attack failed completely in the 2 ODIs as received highest totals by Australia in history against India. In both the matches team played with only five bowlers and a batting all-rounder, Hardik Pandya who is not fit to bowl maximum overs.
Gautam Gambhir said on this, “If India is lacking of a sixth bowler, they should give chance to Shivam Dubey or Washington Sundar. India should play players like Dubey or Washington Sundar or a player who would balance the team in the next match. If they don’t have options in Australia then this is the mistake of selection committee. If we don’t give chance to new players then we won’t know the caliber of the player at International level.”
What Gambhir said is notable India should have atleast minimum options for all-rounders. But in the current ODI squad who is playing in Australia have only 2 all-rounders. And features more than 7 batsmen where Indian batting side is playing good.
In the third ODI tomorrow on 2 December India would try to win the match and perform well as a team. It would be interesting to watch what team Virat Kohli would play in the match. If they don’t make needed changes there are chances of getting whitewash in this series which is not expected from one of the world-class team.
