‘A Minecraft Movie’, a Hollywood film based on the video game is an absolute laugh riot and an entertaining watch. Directed by Jared Hess, the film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Sebastian Hanse, Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks in lead roles.
The film is based on the popular game ‘Minecraft’ where you explore and build in a world made of blocks. It's like a big adventure and creativity game all mixed together. four misfits are pulled through a portal into a cubic world that thrives on imagination, having no choice but to master the world while embarking on a quest with an expert crafter named Steve.
As expected, Jack Black steals the show with his humour and commendable comedic timings, and the other characters are simple and well written, and the entire cast works well together. The most surprising aspect of the film was Jason Momoa’s character of ‘The Garbage Man’, completely overshadowing everyone else in the film. We are used to Momoa’s characters like Aquaman or Khal Drogo, but this character of a loser trying to act cool was something unexpected from Jason, but absolutely fun to watch.
The story is crisp, getting to the point, and Hess’ completes the entire storyline in 100 minutes. The first half of the film is extremely entertaining, and would keep you laughing. The second half, though entertaining was quite predictable, especially the climax.
The animation is phenomenal, bringing the world of Minecraft to life, and fans of the game would love to see their favourite world come to life. The little random musical elements added extra entertainment to the story, and Jack Black’s singing is just an add on.
Minecraft is thoroughly entertaining watch for everyone, and whether you are familiar with Minecraft or not, this film will definitely make you laugh.
