Cop dramas and thrillers have never failed to strike a chord with the audience. While Hindi cinema has given some popular cop characters to its fans, most of these parts were played by male actors back in the day. It is only in the last three decades where the audience has witnessed to a bevy of female cops. Some made a mark with their loud and tough acts and others portrayed a rather gentle and humane side to cops. In the coming months, content-lovers will be treated to a slew of films and web shows based on female cops.
Here are five female actors whose cop avatars we are looking forward to:
Shefali Shah set a new trend with her portrayal of a cop with her flawless performance in the International Emmy Award-winning web series, Delhi Crime. She played Vartika Chaturvedi, a character that was based on former Delhi Police DCP Chaya Sharma, who led the Nirbhaya case investigation. Shefali was appreciated for humanising a cop, underplaying her character and emoting through her eyes. She will be seen donning the uniform once again for the second season which is expected to release soon.
Lara Dutta Bhupathi
Lara Dutta Bhupathi made her digital debut with Hundred in which she portrayed the role of a tough and no-nonsense cop for the first time. An interesting departure from the glamorous roles that she had played in the past, the actor makes her character entertaining and impressively changes gears when she decides to get into the action mode. As per reports, she will be revisiting her character in the second season of Hundred.
Prachi Desai is all set to join the bandwagon as she will be essaying the part of a cop in her upcoming web film, Silence. Making a comeback after a brief hiatus, the actor will be seen playing the role of an inspector. Going by the teaser, Prachi will be seen playing a tough cop and will also be involved in some interesting action sequences. Many fans have appreciated her look and are eagerly looking forward to her much-awaited digital debut.
Sonakshi Sinha is all set to play a cop for the first time in Fallen, a web series which marks her foray into the OTT world. While much is not known about her character yet, we have learnt that she will be seen in a never-seen-before avatar in the crime thriller. Her first look from the series was unveiled recently and needless to say, she has impressed everyone with her tough and gritty avatar.
Rasika Dugal played Neeti Singh, an IPS officer in training in Delhi Crime. Defying the stereotype of a loud and brash cop, she showed the humane side of a policeperson who is still trying to fit in and get used to the world of crime and brutality. Her Neeti Singh was gentle and idealistic. The performance which won her raving reviews remains one of her best till date. For the next season, she has met real life police woman to slip under the skin of her character with aplomb.
