IZ*ONE’s was disbanded on 28th April i.e on Wednesday as its contract with CJ ENM expired, wrapping up the 2 1/2 year career. All the members will return to their original agencies except for Cho Yuri who will sign up with a new label.

According to Forbes, their disbandment marks K-Pop’s “first great loss” of 2021. Hugh McIntyre, a Forbes Contributor, called their breaking up the first big disbandment of this year in the industry, and he’s not wrong if fans crowdfunding over a million dollars to relaunch the group is any indicator. After being put together in 2018 on the reality competition show PRODUCE 48, the 12-member group IZ*ONE went on to produce multiple chart-topping hits in the following two and a half years.

Their first album COLOR*IZ ranked second on South Korea’s Gaon Album Chart, and 9th on Billboard‘s World Albums chart, with their title track” La Vie en Rose” peaking at number six on the World Digital Songs chart. Their following albums also did incredibly well, with their latest and fourth album One-reeler / Act IV debuting as number one on South Korea’s Gaon Album Chart.

We will definitely miss these girls and their songs!!
