The Karnataka Food Safety and Quality Department have issued a warning about the possible presence of cancer-causing ingredients in cakes made by local bakeries. This warning follows earlier concerns about cancer-causing substances found in popular foods like gobi manchurian, kebabs, and pani puri.
According to reports, tests on cakes from various bakeries in Bengaluru found that 12 different types contain cancer-causing agents. The Karnataka Food Safety and Quality Department is urging bakeries to follow food safety standards. They highlight that these artificial colors can not only raise cancer risks but may also lead to various physical and mental health problems.
This shocking news has raised worries among cake lovers. Popular cakes like red velvet and black forest, which often use eye-catching artificial colors, have been identified as having serious health risks.Tests have detected artificial colors like Allura Red, Sunset Yellow FCF, Ponso 4R, Tartrazine, and Carmoisine in the cakes.
Earlier this year, the Karnataka government banned Rhodamine-B, a food coloring often used in popular items like gobi manchurian and cotton candy. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that strict action will be taken against sellers using these chemicals in their restaurants.
Rhodamine-B is a chemical coloring agent commonly used in the textile and paper industries. Its use in gobi manchurian was intended to make the dish look more appealing. The Food Safety and Standards Regulations of 2011 prohibit the use of artificial or synthetic colors beyond allowed limits in making cotton candy.
According to Section 16 of the regulations, the use of artificial food coloring is not permitted in the production of gobi manchurian.
