The B-town actor Farhan Akhtar had made his directorial debut with the film Dil Chahta Hai which had turned out to be a hit!
Breaking the monotony of the Bollywood clichés after the films of the 90s was Dil Chahta Hai. The film made road trips and the state of Goa even more famous amongst the youth of the country. And the audience just loved the trio of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna. But the director of the film, Farhan Akhtar had found the experience of watching his own film in the theatre as traumatic.
In a recent conversation with Bhumi Pednekar on a chat show, he revealed, “I remember when Dil Chahta Hai released, for three days I couldn’t get out of my house. I was waiting for people to call me and let me know what was going on.”

He went on to narrate, “And then, three days later, I went to a theatre in Bandra to watch it. I don’t know if I wanted to kill myself or the people watching it. Because there was so much noise in the theatre. People opening the door, going in and out. I was like ‘ How can people watch a movie like that?’ You think you have done everything you can and people should just sit in rapt attention. And you think no one should look at each other or be on their phone.”
According to Farhan it was traumatic for him that for the first time he went to watch a film that he had made. And he didn’t think he had eased out at all.
Well, we think the experiences of others watching Dil Chahta Hai wouldn’t have been this bad as ultimately people loved it!
