The director of the film, Aritra Mukharjee, had an exclusive chat with us, and we started off with asking him about his feeling as he has gained a humongous recognition to his name, the euphoric director said, “Obviously,I am ecstatic. I am sure it is every director’s dream to see his or her creation being shown and nominated in such a prestigious festival. I too had this dream but to get this success with my debut film is an achievement.”
Talking about his source of inspiration, the young filmmaker quoted, ” I was inspired by Mrs Nandini Bhowmik. She is a priest as well as a Professor. The profession of priesthood is always associated with the male. The challenges she faced when she ventured into this profession is something that inspired me. She also has broken traditional rituals like kanyadaan. The film’s protagonist Shabari has been inspired by Nandini di. Secondly,a real life incident also inspired me. The Story and Screenplay Writer of this film Zinia Sen was not allowed to participate in a religious ritual at home as she was menstruating. This triggered the idea of this story.”
