Ahsaas Channa on tuesday, while speaking at the third episode of It’s Popping with Ahsaas Channa, Popdiaries’ Live Podcast, shared that her mother, Kulbir Kaur Badesron was responsible for her to break away from portraying male child characters as a kid.
The Kota Factory star, in the podcast, talked about how she started her career as a child actor playing the character of a boy named Rohan in the film Vastu Shastra. She recalled, “So Vastu Shastra was the first film I did, and I had auditioned for it, and they wanted a boy for that part.” She explained that the assistant casting director of the film was present at the ad film shoot, and they approached her to audition for the role.

According to her, they loved her audition and wanted to cast her as a boy. “They wanted a boy for the part and loved my audition, so they convinced my mom to let me act like a boy. Cut my hair and took a bit of convincing for my mother,” she said.
When the host, Manjari Mukherjee, asked when she decided to establish herself as a female actor and stop playing male characters, she said, “So I was 7 years old, when my mother was like enough now. We need to stop her from dressing like a boy and do films as a boy.” She went on stating that she had commitments, and that’s why the act went on till she was seven. She was 6 when she acted in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, starring Shah Rukh Khan, but was constantly made aware of her gender. “I was always very aware, and this was more because I was dressing up and acting like a boy. So I was made aware more that I’m a girl because, when you’re doing this at such a young age, you tend to get confused, and that was a worry for my mother,” she said.
