Actor Nitish Bharadwaj, famous for his portrayal of Lord Krishna in the iconic TV series 'Mahabharat', has lodged a police complaint against his ex-wife, Smita Bharadwaj. The complaint alleges mental harassment and obstruction in meeting his twin daughters.
In a letter addressed to Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra, Nitish Bharadwaj sought assistance, claiming that his ex-wife has been subjecting him to mental harassment and preventing him from meeting his daughters. Following the complaint, Commissioner Mishra has ordered an investigation into the matter, assigning Additional DCP Shalini Dixit to oversee the probe.
Nitish Bharadwaj married Smita, an IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, on March 14, 2009, after reportedly meeting through mutual friends. The couple shares twin daughters, who are now 11 years old. However, after 12 years of marriage, Nitish and Smita separated in 2019, with their divorce being finalized in 2022.

Regarding his separation, Nitish Bharadwaj had previously stated to Bombay Times, "I filed for divorce in the Family Court in Mumbai in September 2019. I do not want to get into the reasons why we separated. The matter is in court right now. All I can say is that sometimes divorce can be more painful than death as you live with an amputated core."
Smita Gate is currently residing in Indore with their daughters following their separation. Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra confirmed the receipt of Nitish Bharadwaj's complaint, stating, "We have received a complaint from Nitish Bharadwaj. We are investigating the matter and trying to find out the facts."
ETimes exclusively spoke with Chinmay Vaidya, the lawyer representing Smita Bharadwaj, who refuted all allegations made by Nitish Bharadwaj. Vaidya stated, "The statements made by Nitish Bharadwaj are completely false and defamatory in nature. It is a personal matter where my client's children are involved, and the case is sub judice. We shall be releasing a statement shortly, narrating the facts." A detailed statement is expected to be released by the end of the week.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra confirmed the receipt of Nitish's complaint, stating, "We have received the complaint and an additional DCP is enquiring into the complaint filed by Bhardwaj."
According to a publication, Nitish alleged in his complaint that he and Smita filed for divorce in 2018. Despite the ongoing legal process, Nitish claims his separated wife is preventing him from seeing his twin daughters, Devyani and Shivranjani.
